Nintendos seventh generation gaming console was code named Revolution. It sought to becoming futuristic and including all conveniences like a wireless controller and Wii remote which has three dimensional functions. The Nintendo Wii also has Wii Connect 24 which can receive messages from the World Wide Web.

Slated for release in the US in mid Nov 2006, the Ninetendo Wii won the Game Critics Award for Best of Show and Best Hardware at the E3 2006. The hardware of the gaming console is state-of-art with the unit being the smallest measuring just 157 mm in height :

The loading slot is in the front and accepts 12cm optical discs and 8 cms discs from Nintendo's older console.

The console will have two USB ports and one SD card slot.

In Japan the console will have DVD Video capabilities. A Sonic Solutions Cine Player CE DVD Navigator software engine will be used in consoles to be released in 2007 with DVD-Video functions.

The Wii remote has accelerometers and infrared detection that enables positioning in 3D space. This means gamers can participate in the game using hand gestures as well as buttons. The controller connects to the Wii console through Bluetooth technology. There are umpteen functions like connectivity to other devices, 4KB non volatile memory and an accelerometer, analog stick and trigger buttons.

The Wii has a sensor bar that can be positioned such that the Wii remote can be used as an accurate pointing device from a distance of 5 meters. However the sensor bar is sensitive to halogen lights and sunlight affecting its functions.

The Wii CPU has a processor known as Broadway with a 90nm SOI CMOS process. The Memory of the Wii is 1T-SRAM.

The Nintendo Wii has 512 MB built-in flash memory that can be expanded using an SD card.

The Wii has four remote controller slots; one SD memory slot; two USB ports; one sensor bar port ;four Nintendo game cube controller ports; two Nintendo game cube memory card ports; WiFi 802.11.b/g wireless built in ports.

The Wii can connect to the World Wide Web through the WiFi and USB to Ethernet adaptor.

The CNET editors have rated the Nintendo Wii as an 8 /10. According to experts at CNET the positive is the futuristic controller design with motion-sensitive gameplay options and the Wi-Fi is all set to extend free online services and game play. The Nintendo Wii is the most affordable of all GenX gaming systems. The negative in the Wii is short battery life, no advanced HD graphics or surround sound and inability to play CDs or DVDs.

What Nintendo Wii brings to gaming is an affordable console with motion sensitive controllers and a focus on fun filled gaming.

Abdelrahim Mansour asked:

The favorite game for Wii this season has been the third installment of the Super Smash Bros called "Super Smash Bros Brawl". This is the game which all Wii console players have been waiting for a long time. After much delay the game is finally launched and it is one of the hottest games right now.

Now let me tell you more about the game and why you should have this in your Favorites section. The most important reason is because of its game play, even if you are not a Super Smash Bros fan, you will get addicted to this game in the first 10 minutes of game play. It is just really fun when you throw your enemies out of the screen with those unique special moves. This game can be played on four controllers which are Classic Controller, GameCube Controller, Wii Remote and Nunchuk and Wii remote together. So you can choose whichever controller you are comfortable with and you can configure them as you like. The game can be played in many modes, which includes standard multiplayer mode as well as elimination-based tournament where a maximum of 16 players can play the game, solo mode which is not very different from previous versions where you have randomly generated matches. My favorite mode has to be Adventure mode: The Subspace Emissary which is a side-scrolling based game with a wonderful storyline filled with meeting more friends as you go along and fighting the Bosses with the help of your friends. Mario and Kirby start the game as they go along side-scrolling fighting the Subspace armies and meeting friends who help them out with their fight against the Tabuu and the Subspace Army and saving the Smash Bros Universe.

The multiplayer is comparatively lag-free and with lot of features like sharing game replays, screenshots and custom levels with you friends. The custom levels created by the users cannot be used to play multiplayer game, but there are tons of awesome looking levels so it is not a deal breaker. Even if you have no friends playing Brawl, you can join multiplayer game in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and you can play with randomly selected participants. If you are new to Brawl and are intimidated with all Brawl PRO's, you can be a spectator and learn from the PRO's and then you can start playing.

Now to the most important feature of Brawl, it has 35 players to choose from. Some of the players are Snake from Metal Gear Solid Series, Pikachu from Pokemon series, Donkey Kong, Mario's alter ego Wario and the best addition Sonic the Hedgehog. Every Player has its own unique special moves and they are very much balanced. But I normally prefer Sonic because he is fast and can jump all over the screen. So the game is going on to become the "Game of the Year" title for Wii. If you have not already bought this game, now is the right to buy it. Work Hard, Play Harder.

Robert asked:

In recent years the gaming industry has exploded into mainstream culture and has intertwined itself into the fabric of everyday life. The success of gaming can be traced back to the classic systems of the 90's, the glorious days of Nintendo and Sega. Yet we all know that the weight of a consoles success always depends on that one defining game. When picturing this perfect synergy of a console and that one game most people will point to Xbox and Halo. Yet everyone who grew up in the 90's knows that this synergy started way back, when Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog meshed together so perfectly.

Sonic the Hedgehog, known as that speedy blue ball of fury, was first birthed by Sega as its "mascot" of sorts. Sega eventually saw the potential of the blue hedgehog as a hit game series and released the first installment in 1991. Sega rode on the coattails of their prodigy as Sonic soared through loops and jumps on TV screens across America and sub sequentially turning Sega into a leading video game company.

From 1991 to 1994 Sega churned out three hit titles starring Sonic and a fourth with Sonic sharing the spotlight with his pal, Knuckles. Sonic barrel rolled out of his 2d home and set foot into a lush 3D environment, in Sonic Adventures for Dreamcast, and never looked back.

Sonic's creator, Sega, decided to drop out of the hardware market in 2001 and allowed Sonic to step into the consoles of its former competitor, Nintendo. After seeing major success on the Nintendo platform, Sega decided to also allow Playstation and Xbox the privilege of selling the Sonic series. In 2006, Sonic the Hedgehog found his series in the form of a star, a part of the honorable "Walk of Game". Almost two decades and 7 console generations after its initial debut, Sonic the Hedgehog is still going strong, with a new hit game on next-gen consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Michelle Bery asked:

The ever changing video game industry took a giant leap when Nintendo released the Wii in late 2006. Unlike previous video game releases from Nintendo, and others, the Wii's distinguishing features were not improved graphics, or faster game speed, or any of the countless other innovations that have dotted the gaming landscape. Instead, Nintendo's Wii has ushered in a new way to play video games with its revolutionary control system.

The controller of the Wii system is a hand-held, wireless remote control that has the ability to sense movements in all directions. Instead of using a traditional joystick, players move, point, swing, and gesture with the remote control, and those movements are detected by infrared sensors on the game console. The result is an interactive gaming experience that can not be had on any game system, especially when you are playing games for the Nintendo Wii because they are designed to take full advantage of all that the Wii has to offer.

Wii Sports is a game that features five game simulations - tennis, golf, baseball, boxing, and bowling - and the natural movements in sports make for a great platform for the Wii to strut its stuff, so it should come as no surprise that Nintendo included Wii Sports with each purchase of a Wii system. However, it is the games for Nintendo Wii that are not included with the game system that continue to drive people to the stores and online retailers.

At the top of the list of games for Nintendo Wii is Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which is the latest in a series of Zelda games, but the first that is compatible with the Wii system. Launched alongside the Wii, Zelda allows loyal fans to continue their adventures in ways that only the Wii can allow. Medal of Honor: Vanguard is another new release of an old favorite. Medal of Honor continues its realistic World War II "shoot em" action, while in another release everyone's favorite hedgehog makes his Wii debut in Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Hardcore gamers consider one of the best games for Nintendo Wii to be WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Considered to be an ideal platform for all the Wii can do, WarioWare is another game that continues on an existing series. WarioWare relies on a series of microgames - games based on simple movements that can often last only a few seconds each. The player is given rapid game scenarios with instructions that hint at the required action. Making the correct movements allows the player to move on to the next game, whereas too many mistakes will force the player to start over. The concept of movements as the key to success makes this one of the most ideal games for Nintendo Wii.

Countless new games for Nintendo Wii are sure to hit the market, especially as the popularity of the game platform is growing. Regardless of the theme of the game, the unique controller is sure to make all future games for the Nintendo Wii unlike anything one could play with any other gaming system.
